Rita Austin, a retired secretary from London, saved £270 on her electricity bills | Compare and save now As a journalist there’s a great difficulty in reporting race statistics. Anytime they don’t conform with the agenda you are accused of being racist. Being white and, ahem, older, that is a given as far as the Left are concerned and a decent chunk of the activist black community. So what am I to make of the latest research from the Office of National Statistics which shows Britons from ethnic minorities live longer than white people and are less likely to die from cancer. Astonishing stuff. The Sun, which was always considered a working class paper and news website, solved the issue of the hot potato and simply didn’t report it. That was poor as the research was not carried out by some nutter organisation but the ONS which describes itself as “the executive office of the UK Statistics Authority which reports directly to Parliament.” It doesn’t matter if you are black Caribbean, black African, Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi male or female you will live longer than your white counterpart. Life expectancy for white Britons was 83.1 years for women and 79.7 years for men compared with 88.9 years for black African women and 83.8 for men. White Britons were also more likely than any other to die of cancer. Cancer mortality was lowest among the Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis. However the South Asian and black ethnic groups had significantly higher death rates from diabetes, heart attacks and strokes. Of course there will be cynics and jokers among you who start shouting black privilege and want an investigation into why whites are dying so much earlier than other communities. Is it their diet? Do they face more stress? Is it their housing? After all if the results had been the other way round the storm would have been enormous. Veena Raleigh, an epidemiologist senior fellow at the King’s Fund, a healthcare think tank, got it right when she said the findings “may come as a surprise to many”. Another expert said the results were in line with previous studies. So there we are. We should be trying to raise the health bar for the white community. Would The Sun report that?
