There is a wonderful interview in The Times with Barry Hearn who has recently stepped down as the chairman of Matchroom Sports.

There was Alex Higgins being objectionable and wonderful, and Steve Davis being dull and boring but awfully good. Bill Werbeniuk drank 15 pints a day and Jimmy White was the Artful Dodger, unable to read or write but faster than anyone I’ve ever known at working out an eight-horse accumulator. Those early days formulated how I went on to promote sport.” Barry will be missed in British sport.

Kelvin may recall Barry came to see us about his fishing idea, "Fishorama". We were all wildly enthusiastic until he mentioned he needed £75k from the Sun to help it along! We very quickly wriggled off the hook at that suggestion. From memory when Kelvin and I pitched up at the Mirror Barry reappeared with "Fishorama the sequel." Still a great idea - and still £75k. Again we were unable to take the bait but what a showman.
