I ask this basic question after seeing that Diane Abbott linked the shooting of BLM activist Sasha Johnson to racial injustice. That theory would make some kind of sense were it not for Scotland yard commander Alison Heydari saying it had nothing to do with it. In fact she said they were looking for four young black men who had gone into the garden in Peckham, South London, at 3AM while the party was in full swing and shot Ms Johnson in the head. It was not, repeat not, a targeted shooting. And that was from Scotland Yard. That did not stop Ms Abbott from saying the following; “Nobody should have to potentially pay with their life because they stood up for racial justice.” When she knew the reality why did Ms Abbott not delete the tweet? She was challenged by Iain Dale, the mildest of presenters on LBC, and even then failed to withdraw the charge. So the voters knows it isn’t true and yet the MP continues to say it. Perhaps it won’t damage Ms Abbott as she has a huge majority with plenty of support from minorities but what about more marginal areas of the country. Sir Keir Starmer, the current leader of the Labour Party (I say current as come September of 2022 he will be gone if polls continue to be against him) says eliminating structural racism will be the “defining cause” of the next Labour government. If that is Labour’s main policy plank for 2024 then Boris can go back to bed now and sleep for three years before getting up and winning by 100 seats.
